Flood warning issued across southern inland Queensland

A GENERAL flood-watch is active for southern inland and western Queensland as storms continue to move through the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning stating that rainfall totals of between 50-150mm had been recorded across the flood watch area in the 96 hours to 9am Sunday.

The bureau is warning that further rainfall is expected over the next four days, with totals of 50 to 100mm likely during this period with localised totals in excess of 100mm possible.

The forecast rainfall is expected to produce river level rises across the watch area.

Heavy rainfall may also lead to localised flash flooding.

Catchments at risk within the flood watch area include the Georgina, Diamantina, Cooper, Bulloo, Paroo, Warrego, Wallam/Mungallala, Condamine/Balonne, southern Fitzroy Rvs catchment tributaries (Nogoa, Comet and Dawson Rivers), Moonie and Macintyre/Weir catchments.

Several flood warnings are current across the watch area.

See www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for further details.

The bureau says the warning means that people living or working along rivers and creeks should monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.

On the Darling Downs, Applethorpe and Warwick have received the highest downpours, with 21.2mm falling on Applethorpe and 15.6mm on Warwick since 9am yesterday.

The bureau says 11.2mm has fallen on Miles, 8.2mm on Dalby and 11mm on Stanthorpe.

Wellcamp Airport has recorded just 2.8mm and the latest observations for Toowoomba have recorded 10.8mm of rain.

Tomorrow is expected to be partly cloudy in Toowoomba with almost no chance of rain.

Showers will return again on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Weather group Higgins Storm Chasing is warning of heavy falls and flash flooding across parts of inland Queensland.

Large parts of Queensland are drought declared areas.
