Floating on air with award

AFTER laying hidden in a council room and gathering dust for six years, the Mayoral Grand Champion trophy for the best rodeo parade float was proudly handed out to the winning entrant for this year.

Wheatvale State School was officially awarded the trophy this week - the first presentation in six years since the trophy mysteriously vanished - along with a cheque for $200.

Their prize-winning float was a stand-out in the parade, with the theme 'yesterday, today and tomorrow'. It featured photos of future students, along with various purple decorations, highlighting the school colour.

Parent Valerie White said many people belonging to the Wheatvale community had put in a lot of hours to create the masterpiece.

"We had spent a lot of time on the float, spray painting the wheat gold - it took us a couple of weeks," she said.

"It was all for the kids though - it was well worth it when you see their faces."

The win made it two in a row for Wheatvale, after the school won last year's rodeo trophy.
