Fireworks given seal of approval
THERE is something special about to happen for the people of Stanthorpe.
"The Apple and Grape fireworks are going to happen,” festival president Greg Thouard and Max Brunner, CEO of Skylighter Fireworx, announced jointly.
"Saturday evening, it bucketed down and caused the multicultural carnival to close, the rodeo was affected, the street carnival stopped and the one event that people love on Saturday night is the fireworks,” Mr Thouard said.
"I was a lonely figure in the middle of Carnarvon Bridge, dripping wet, having to make a decision.
"Putting the fireworks into the low clouds, heavy with rain, would have been a disappointing show and unfair to the sponsors.”.
In the aftermath, he Mr Thouard contacted Mr Brunner.
"It was the most uplifting and supportive conversation I have had for a long time.
"His comments were that the company has a lot of respect for the Stanthorpe community, high regard for the festival as a long time fireworks client and as a sign of support from Skylighter Fireworx, Mr Brunner made a special offer to "pick a date and a time and we will be there”.
The fireworks will be set off from the Lions/Rotary Park alongside Quart Pot Creek on Friday, April 20, at 8pm and the Skylighter Fireworx team promise a magnificent aerial display.
"We're very happy to support the Stanthorpe community and I look forward to a marvellous fireworks display,” Mr Brunner said.
Volunteer thank you
The festival committee has announced a special thank you function for the huge number of volunteers at the 2018 festival would be held before the fireworks display.
Volunteers director Annette Brown said the management committee would work hard to put on a special show as a vote of thanks for the thousands of hours put in by volunteers.
"The festival could not be held without the voluntary efforts of so many people.
"These are the people that make our community such an enjoyable place and I am looking forward to the function to thank them all,” Annette said.
The function will start at 5.30pm, formalities at 6.30pm and departure at 7.15pm to the creek parklands to again volunteer for crowd control.
Venue for the function is yet to be announced and will be done through the Border Post, Facebook and festival website appleandgrape.org
