Fire danger: Girraween closed
BREAKING NEWS: Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service has closed Girraween National Park south of Stanthorpe due to fire danger.
QPWS Principal Ranger James Haig said a large fire was approaching the north-western side of Girraween this afternoon, with multiple crews attending.
"The park is closed until further notice as a precaution, for the safety of park visitors and ranger staff," Mr Haig said.
"A small number of campers are at the park and will leave by tomorrow, and we're notifying people with camping bookings about the closure.
"Intending visitors should check park alerts at www.nprsr.qld.gov.au for updates," he said.
During high fire danger periods, visitors to any national park or State forest are reminded to contact QPWS rangers before entering remote areas of reserves, and to abide by "park closed" signs.
