Fillies and Colts sides claw back to progress

Fillies and Junior Colts

WITH the game played in gusty conditions, Ballandean were up against it with the wind in their face in the opening half of the Fillies preliminary final.

The Reds controlled large portions of the first half but had nothing to show for their hard work.

Carlton came out stronger in the second half and were rewarded with a goal to Bridget Day.

That was the wake-up Ballandean needed and they levelled shortly after when Christine Fermor set up Jess Carnell for a goal.

The game went into extra time and with the game in the balance, Jess Carnell was able to score her second to help get her team over the line. They'll face Inter in the grand final.

In an exciting spectacle, Inter and City faced off in the Junior Colts, with City enjoying the bulk of possession in the opening half. It eventually led to a goal. Inter never gave up, picking up a goal for themselves.

Inter's keeper put in a man of the match display to keep his side level. It paid dividends as Inter got their noses in front after a goal-mouth scramble led to a goal and what proved to be the winner.

They'll come up against Ballandean this Saturday, who have sides in each of the five grand finals.
