GOLF: Players will be dolled up and pretty in pink this Saturday as the community unites for an annual charity event.
Heritage Bank will turn to Stanthorpe Golf Club for its charity golf day to raise funds in support of breast cancer research.
Members of the community are invited to join golfers at Stanthorpe Golf Club from 11.45am Saturday to tee off at the 2017 Stanthorpe Charity Golf Day.
Sponsored by Heritage Bank, the event offers prizes for first and second placings in both men's and women's categories, special prizes on selected holes and the much sought-after prize for the best dressed in pink.
"We held our first golf day for breast cancer back in 2011 so it's wonderful to see it continue to go from strength to strength each year,” Heritage Bank Stanthorpe customer service supervisor Wendy Maitland said.
"No matter your level of golf skills, everyone who comes along has a great time supporting this cause and getting into the pink theme.
"It's just a good cause and we'd love to see as many people come out and support it.”
Ms Maitland said if the event was anything like last year, there would be some great costumes.
"People have a lot of fun. Last year people got so dressed up, it was great.
"I expect the Stanthorpe shops will run out of pink decorations as local golfers look for items for themselves and their golf buggies.
"Proceeds raised from the event will go towards assisting the local cancer support group.
"As treatment mostly takes place in Toowoomba or Brisbane, there are a lot of additional out-of-pocket expenses associated such as transport and parking.
"The funds raised from the golf day takes some of the pressure off and helps people show their support,” Ms Maitland said.
