Farrell back with Ashes campaign set to start up

RENE Farrell took a hat-trick to help the Australian women, the Southern Stars, regain the Ashes in her last Test appearance two years ago.

Now the pace bowler has the opportunity to help win back the trophy after the ACT Meteors representative was yesterday named in Australia's 14-strong squad for next month's showdown against England.

Farrell has not played international cricket since taking that hat-trick during her match-winning spell of 5-23 off 17 overs at Sydney's Bankstown Oval. She decided to have an indefinite break after playing two Tests, 23 one-day and 23 Twenty20 internationals.

Australian chair of selectors Julie Savage said it was great to have the 26-year-old back.

"Rene is having a terrific season with the ball for the ACT Meteors, punctuated with damaging batting cameos. Her international experience will be an asset to the team," Savage said.
