‘Cancel the Ashes’: Fans slam ‘pathetic’ display

CRICKET: Outraged fans have taken aim at Cricket Australia for their stage design for the Ashes trophy celebration, accusing the hosts of disrespecting the visiting Poms.

Steve Smith lifted the Ashes trophy after a dominant innings and 123-run victory in the fifth Test at the SCG to secure a four-nil series victory on Monday.

But rather than praise Smith and his side, much of the talk on social media was about two giant props at the back of the podium.

On either side stood two large hands; one with four fingers lifted in the colours of the Australian flag and another with the England flag with a closed fist.

They denoted the Aussies 4-0 series victory, but not everyone was a fan.

A fan asked on Twitter asking if organisers had made a version of the Australian hand with three fingers in the event the SCG Test was drawn.

And indeed they had, with Charlie Sale, journalist for the UK's Daily Mail locating it inside the bowels of the stadium.
