Family lands 1.3 metre murray cod monster at Leslie Dam
A FAMILY that regularly fishes Leslie Dam has landed the fish of a lifetime - a 1.3 metre murray cod that was too big for the boat's brag mat.
Dianne Turvey hooked the cod fishing with her husband and son from a boat anchored near the dam wall.
Mr Turvey used her husband's rod, rigged for flathead fishing with a four-inch curltail grub on a quarter ounce jighead.
She cast it out a couple of times and used a slow roll along the bottom before she hooked up on what they all thought was a snag.

The dead weight was too much to be a fish but then a couple of head shakes and they knew they had something big.
Knowing it was only 6lb braid and 10lb leader, they thought their chances of landing this fish were slim but after close to an hour of fighting, the fish finally surface.
It was amazingly a huge murray cod. The family lifted it into the boat and put it on the brag mat and it was hanging over the end of the 120cm mat by about 10cm.
This is an incredible fish to come out of Leslie and a very unusual way to catch it.
It's a great story and the cod was released back into the dam for the next angler.
