LYN Slade has been relentless in her personal development - both as a natural therapist and a business owner.

While working as a therapy assistant for Queensland Health, Ms Slade completed a massage course, piquing her interest in natural therapy.

After leaving Queensland Health, working from home and as an independent practitioner at several clinics, she decided to take the plunge and open Edals Natural Therapy Centre, which offers holistic remedial massage.

She has also offers training in a learning centre in the same Cecil St premises, Aminya Natural Therapies Academy.

Ms Slade said after completing courses like remedial massage, reflexology, aromatherapy and oncology massage, picking up skills as a small business owner was crucial to her success.

"After having achieved the professional learning required to successfully work in my field, opening my own business required an enormous leap of faith with regard to my own abilities as a small business owner," she said.

"Being able to develop my business slowly had allowed me the opportunity to learn the structural aspects of running a business at a steady rate.

"The most important tool I have used in developing my business has been that of personal persistence."

Ms Slade said a passion for her work and family support were what helped her business get up and running and stay successful.

"Without family support for my ongoing learning and business expansion, Edals Natural Therapy Centre may never have come to fruition.

"I have also found that through making connections with other small business that I have felt comfortable with asking for help when needed."
