Ex-Warwick junior leads US hopes

FORMER Warwick hockey junior Lee Bodimeade has a side capable to being in the medals at the London Olympics after his team, the United States women, beat Australia 2-1 in a series at the Sunshine Coast last week.

Bodimeade will coach United States to a second Olympics and has the chance to be at the helm when the side wins its first Olympic medal.

United States won the first two games of the three-Test series before Australia finished with a 3-0 victory on Sunday.

Bodimeade said although he was pleased with the series win, when the Hockeyroos scored two goals in quick succession on Sunday it meant his girls had to play catch up.

"On any given day you have to be on your game or a top-10 team will punish you."

Hockeyroos coach Adam Commens described Bodimeade as a lighting fast forward in his time in the Australian men's team.

"I think they will trouble top teams at the Olympic Games," Commens said.
