Essendon's drug disgrace

WHAT I hate about sport this week is the endless list of supplements athletes are taking in hope of boosting their performance.

Forking out thousands of dollars to gain an edge over their rivals but the question is, is it all worth it?

Perhaps not for Essendon skipper and last year's Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson, whose career, along with five other Essendon players, hangs in the balance.

Taking part in their clubs "elite" supplement program, the AFL stars took peptide AOD9604 last year, a substance which was officially banned in January 2011.

AOD9604 is said to repair cartilage and treat joint disease and was modelled on the fat metabolism region of human growth hormones.

World Anti-Doping Agency president John Fahey laid down the law earlier this week declaring: "The moment it's in your system, you're gone, full stop."

"There's strict liability here, if it's in your system you take the consequences."

In my opinion if you take the drug, it's on you, you're the one who took it and no

body forced you to take it.

I find it ridiculous that even after taking the illegal drug, the Essendon skipper will tonight captain his side into their clash against the West Coast Sea Eagles.
