Drugs, gun found in raid
A HOME-grown marijuana stash and an unsecured gun have almost cost a man his freedom.
Phillip Anthony Thomson was caught with 3.381kg of marijuana scattered throughout his house when police raided it on July 6 last year.
The Stanthorpe District Court this week heard the Storm King Dam man led police to the 2.84kg of the drug he had in clip seal bags hidden in his cupboard.
The remaining amount, about 500g, was found at various places throughout the house.
The 38-year-old told police he started growing the drug to deal with the pain resulting from shoulder surgery.
An unsecured air rifle was also found on the property.
Judge Julie Ryrie told the man that smoking marijuana was illegal, "whether you like it or not".
"If you get caught again you are more than likely going into custody," she said.
"Learn from this. Stay away from drugs, go to a doctor and get something prescribed for your pain."
Thomson pleaded guilty to producing and possessing a dangerous drug and possessing drug utensils and an illegal firearm.
The father of three was sentenced to 12 months jail, wholly suspended for 12 months.
