Driver still critical after accident

A COTTONVALE man remains in critical condition following a single vehicle rollover at Applethorpe.

The 29-year-old driver was flown to Brisbane on Friday and suffered serious head and back injuries.

A 20-year-old back seat passenger suffered a broken collarbone, while a 16-year-old riding in the front was uninjured.

MEN INJURED IN CRASH WERE LOCALS

Officer in Charge of Stanthorpe Police Station, Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland, said things could have been a lot worse.

"They were lucky to get out of it alive," he said.

"The driver has got some serious closed head injuries."

Officer in Charge of Road Policing Sgt Dan O'Dea said that preliminary investigations had revealed speed didn't appear to be a dominant factor in the accident.

"It's hard to determine until we've spoken to all persons involved in the crash," he said.

"Any crash you go to is bad. All we can do is urge drivers to be vigilant on the roads."
