Domestic violence expert from US to speak in Mackay

AN American expert on domestic violence will talk to support workers from across Australia at a gathering in Mackay on May 28.  

The session, featuring Connecticut academic Hilary Haldane, will look at changes in frontline services and domestic violence intervention and prevention.   

Dr Haldane, the Quinnipiac University anthropology program director, will speak at CQUniversity's Backing the Frontline: Workforce Development in the Domestic Violence Sector.

Meanwhile CQU is offering a range of new short courses to improve understanding of domestic violence for support workers.  

The university is also offering a graduate certificate in domestic and family violence practice in 2016.   

Enrolments for the graduate certificate will begin next month, and in 2016 the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research will begin a comprehensive research project into the experiences of frontline domestic and family violence support workers.   

The Backing the Frontline: Workforce Development in the Domestic Violence Sector event will be at CQUniversity's Mackay campus from 9.30am on Thursday May 28.
