Devoted to sheep breeding
IT WAS a special day in the sheep ring on Saturday as George Milano was crowned a life member of the Australian Romney Association.
The Laidley man was acknowledged for his contributions to the sheep breeding society, and his wisdom in the field.
ARA president Gavin Wall said he was a deserving winner.
"The rules used to be that they had to be in the industry for a certain amount of years, but we've changed that," Mr Wall said.
"Now it's an acknowledgement of the time breeding sheep and a significant contribution and commitment to it."
A grateful Mr Milano said he was thrilled he had been recognised.
"It's an honour and I am humble. I didn't expect this," Mr Milano said.
"I used to think these awards only went to old people and I said that to one of my boys and he said 'Dad, you are old'."
He shared wise words with those in the Warwick Show sheep judging arena.
"I was always told, once you finish one show, you get ready for the next one," he said.
"I learnt as I went along, listened to older people and now for me to be mentioned in the same listing is just great."
