Demolition date for house where eight children were killed

A HOUSE where eight children were killed is set to be demolished in a fortnight.

Housing Minister Leanne Enoch has confirmed the Manoora house, near Cairns, will be razed on June 1 to make way for a permanent memorial after consultation with the family of the victims, residents and the local council.

The children, aged between two and 14, were found dead on December 19 last year in a home on Murray St in the Cairns suburb of Manoora.

The crime made headlines across the world and resulted in an outpouring of grief across the nation.

Raina Mersane Ina Thaiday, 37, mother of seven of the children and aunt to the eighth, has been charged with eight counts of murder over the incident.
