Delving into the past

AS THE time when headspace can call the Glennie Hall its new home draws nearer, director Mark Goddard has uncovered some of the building's history dating back to when the first brick was laid.

Now, having his hands on just part of the history of the building, he is hungry for more and is asking anyone with information or photos to come forward.

"It's got an amazing history and it's really interesting," he said.

"We're returning it to its old roots.

"The original use for it was as a building for the Oddfellows Society, which looked after the welfare of the community."

The Glennie Hall was built in 1880-1881, designed by prominent Warwick architects Wallace and Gibson and was initially called the Oddfellows Hall.

For the next 100 years it was used as a nightclub, radio station and restaurant.

It is heritage-listed.

The next chapter in the building's history will ring old bells, when local mental health service, headspace, moves in after renovations are complete.

"I'd love to learn more about the history of the building and what it has been over the years," Mr Goddard said.

"If anyone has old photographs or documents regarding the building, it would be wonderful to see them."
