Delivering new services

REFURBISHMENT of the maternity services at Stanthorpe Hospital was just one of the topics discussed when the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service Board met in Stanthorpe on Tuesday.

The project will take its next step when the tender for works is released in mid-November.

DDHHS board chair Mike Horan said the $1.1million project was an exciting milestone for the local community.

"The work will include changing the existing space to create larger birthing suites, ensuites to both birthing units and a birthing pool," Mr Horan said.

Every second meeting is held at a regional location, and the Stanthorpe meeting allowed board members to see firsthand the work of local health facilities, meet staff and engage with local community stakeholders.

"Tapping into local networks to understand community concerns and, in some cases solutions, is an important part of ensuring the DDHHS delivers relevant services that meet community needs and priorities.

"To achieve this, we invited representatives from various local community groups, government services, the health and community sector and businesses to meet with the board over lunch."
