Dead cat brag on Facebook - 'shot in eye and it gone boop'
A GRUESOME photo of a Caloundra man proudly holding a dead cat he allegedly shot in the eyeball has sparked outrage on Facebook.
While the 20-year-old has since removed the photo from his personal Facebook page, it has already been posted across animal welfare sites.
Animal activist Cathy Conlon saw the image on Facebook late on Tuesday night.
Ms Conlon has contacted Sunshine Coast Council, the RSPCA and the man's employer.
Police will not be able to investigate as it is not a crime to kill a feral cat.
The photo - which is too disturbing for the Daily to reprint - shows the man smiling as he holds up the dead cat which has an eyeball popped out and is covered in blood.
His Facebook comment with the photo is "have never been a cat person".
When asked what happened to the eye, he brags "chest shot didn't kill it so shot it in the eye and it gone boop".
RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said the RSPCA would investigate.
The man's employer, Princes Super IGA in Caloundra, has condemned the cruel killing.
"Princes Super IGA Caloundra does not condone or support the behaviour of this employee and has referred the matter to the appropriate authorities," manager Ben Prince said.
"We wish to draw your attention to the fact that the employee is currently on annual leave and his action of shooting the cat was completely unrelated to his employment at Super IGA Caloundra."
Ms Conlon said it was a "despicable act".
"I am specifically repulsed by his bragging about it and the response from some of his friends," she said.
Early yesterday the man also had a Facebook posting of an image with him beside two dead pigs. This was removed later in the day.
Attempts to contact the man for comment have been unsuccessful.
