Dave ready to pedal for charity
WITH just three weeks left until he mounts his bike for one of three mammoth rides this year, Jennings resident Dave Best is confident his fitness is up to scratch ahead of the 890km QFRS Bike for Burns ride next month.
Mr Best will take to the road with other cycling fundraisers and will trek from Southport through Stanthorpe to the Brisbane Children's Hospital.
Two months after he suffered a serious knee injury early last year, Mr Best's five-year-old stepdaughter, Faith, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
"Watching her recovery and the scale of her operation made mine look small," Mr Best said.
"Basically seeing what goes on at the hospital, the effort the staff put in with the resources they've got - it's hard.
"It's just a very small way to say thanks to the hospital staff for everything they have done."
Mr Best has spent the past six months training for the ride and has place donation tins across the region at Stanthorpe Print and Copy, Granite Belt Fitness, Granite Belt Fruit Freighters, the Wallangarra Store, the Wallangarra Pub, Wizard's Butchery in Tenterfield and the Famous Pie Shop in Tenterfield.
Raffle tickets have also been placed at the Wallangarra Store, Granite Belt Fitness and Wizard's Butchery.
Raffle tickets cost $2 each or three for $5. First prize is a $1000 Anaconda gift voucher, second prize is two nights twin share at a Novotel Resort and third prize is a $500 Bunnings voucher.
All funds raised will be donated to the Brisbane Children's Hospital to support sick and injured children.
