Dad jailed for decade of sex abuse

A BARGARA father who repeatedly sexually assaulted his two young daughters for more than a decade has been sentenced to nine years jail for the sickening offences.

The 49-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his children, began frequently exploiting his eldest daughter when she was just 4 or 5, performing sex acts on her and forcing her to perform similar acts on him before finally having sex with her.

When the girl turned 14, she confronted him and told him to stop.

While he complied, he then started preying on her younger sister.

The man yesterday faced Bundaberg District Court and pleaded guilty to 11 offences spanning 13 years from 1994-2006, including incest, nine counts of indecent treatment of a lineal descendant under his care, and one count of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child.

"You used her as your sexual plaything, culminating in the act of incest," Judge John Robertson told the sexual predator.

"When she was 14, she told you that it would never happen again. Unfortunately, you had started to abuse her sister.

"She kept her terrible secret until 2008."

When the older girl went to police, officers made a recorded phone call to the defendant, whom the judge said made "damning comments".

The court was told the man had denied the claims before making excuses, including that the girls had been the ones to start the relationship - "the typical excuses and comments used by people who commit these offences against their own children", Judge Robertson said.

"It's all pretty sickening."

The judge sentenced the 49-year-old to nine years jail with parole eligibility after four years, including a year already served, in June 2015.

"You have abused the most sacred of relationships in our society and that is the relationship between a child and their parents," Judge Robertson said.
