Cutting gets his chance to show what he can do

NEW national selector Rod Marsh has given the first lead on who he thinks can help Australia win next year's World Cup by naming some new faces in the 14-man squad to tour Zimbabwe later this month.

Fast bowlers Ben Cutting (pictured) and Kane Richardson, all-rounder Mitch Marsh and spinner Nathan Lyon will have the chance to push their World Cup claims in the four-game series which also includes South Africa.

Marsh said Phillip Hughes, Xavier Doherty and Clint McKay were unlucky to miss out.

"With the World Cup edging closer we have to take opportunities to consider players like Cutting, Lyon and Richardson who have all been pressing claims," he said.

SQUAD: Michael Clarke (c), George Bailey (v-c), Ben Cutting, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Shane Watson.
