Cunningham Highway: When can motorist access roads

THE Cunningham Highway will remain closed into next week according to a spokesman from Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The route linking Warwick to the major metropolitan centres closed again on Saturday afternoon due to bushfires ripping through the area.

There is a high risk of large, burning trees falling onto the road as high fire danger continues to plague the area.

"Inspections are underway however it is unsafe for our crews to access some locations.

"Trees are continuing to smoulder and fall onto the road - the slopes above the road are potentially unstable.

"It is not currently safe for motorists to travel while trees are continuing to fall. Safety remains our number one priority.

"We would like to thank the community for its understanding and patience during the closure.
