Cunningham Campdraft action

THE Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve will take on a carnival atmosphere this weekend when the annual Cunningham Campdraft is held.

The recreation reserve is the focal point for the Cunningham Polocrosse Club, the Cunningham Pony Club and the Cunningham Campdraft.

The polocrosse and pony clubs have joined with the Wheatvale State School P&C in organising the campdraft, which has attracted 750 horse-and-rider combinations.

Including the finals, more than 1000 cattle will be used.

About 100 competitors weren't accepted for the campdraft, due to a limit of 750, such is the interest in the sport. It was first in, first served.

Each year, the pony club has an annual gymkhana and last year Ellen Cooper won the major trophy, the Neville Wenham Memorial Encouragement Award.

Pony club events are held at Bony Mountain each month during the year.

The Cunningham Polocrosse Club hosts two carnivals a year and many major events.

Some of the high-profile campdrafters in action from 5am today and tomorrow include Terry and Christine Hall from Goondiwindi, last year's Carmen Batterham Memorial Open winner Brendan Fitzgerald, past open winner Neville Fanning as well as several budding juniors from the Cunningham area.
