UPDATE: A 26-year-old woman has been rushed to Warwick Hospital after a serious crash about 10kms south of Warwick.

Senior Sergeant Dominic Cremasco from Warwick Police said the driver, an international backpacker, was overtaking cars when she swerved to avoid roadkill on the highway and lost control of the car and rolled it several times.

The car is severely damaged and was lying upside down on the side of the road against a rock face.

The driver's side of the vehicle was almost completely crushed.

Drivers from other vehicles assisted the driver to exit the crashed vehicle from the passenger side.

The woman was then stabilised in another vehicle until Queensland Ambulance Service arrived.

Crews worked to stabilise the patient further before moving her to the ambulance for transportation to Warwick Hospital.

The woman suffered abdominal injuries and a head wound, but Snr Sgt Cremasco said she was extremely lucky to be alive.

Police will interview the driver further in hospital.

Traffic was under direction at the scene but the vehicle has now been removed and the highway is clear.
