Cowboys into top five with win
WINGER Michael O'Keefe was named players' player as Warwick beat Pittsworth 42-24 in Saturday night's A-grade fixture at Pittsworth.
Second rower Brendan McNicol and centre Scott Beard also received player of the year points as the Cowboys secured a top-five berth.
Beard was moved from the pack to centre after Bob Nicholls failed a fitness test 20 minutes before play.
Coach Gary Lawrence said the win was one of the Cowboys' best of the season.
“Jarred Bradfield was out after a work accident and John Trindall injured a groin muscle at training on Thursday and aggravated the injury in the warm up,” Lawrence said.
“We had 12 players 20 minutes before kick-off.
“Eamon Brownlie started in A grade after playing a full game in the under-18 side.
“I was very impressed with Eamon's work on and off the ball. He scored a try in his first 20 minutes of A grade.”
Hayden McNicol left the field injured in the first half which meant O'Keefe moved to fullback.
Lawrence said the four reserve graders who went up to the A-grade bench did a mighty job.
Warwick drew the U18 game 14-all after Jeremy Jerome ran 90 metres close to full time and converted.
Warwick lost reserve grade 34-22 and also lost C grade 28-14.
