Coveted Anzac Cup up for grabs
RODDIE'S Oval will be the venue for the VSASA Anzac Cup Australian Rules game to be played between the Warwick Credit Union Redbacks and the Lockyer Valley Demons on Saturday. This game is in its 10th year and is played on the nearest Saturday before Anzac Day.
The opponent is different each year and the team that plays against the Redbacks on that particular Saturday has the opportunity to win the coveted trophy.
In the previous nine years the cup has been won by the Redbacks seven times.
It has been won by Kingaroy twice in five cup games
Goondiwindi has competed for it on two occasions and South Toowoomba and USQ once each to no avail.
With some heavy training this week the coaching staff at the WCU Redbacks has informed me that the cup will spend another year in Warwick after Saturday.
All club supporters, returned servicemen and women and all active servicemen and women are invited to take part in a welcoming address by club president Keith Clarke at 2pm Saturday followed by a short remembrance ceremony and seniors game.
All medal recipients from any theatre of war are asked to wear their medals. Junior games will be played earlier in the day.
