Cop killer has non-parole time extended over home invasion

CONVICTED cop killer Phillip Graeme Abell has had his non-parole period extended for 12 months for a separate crime.

Abell was jailed for life last month after a jury found him guilty of shooting Detective Senior Constable Damien Leeding in the head during an armed robbery at the Pacific Pines Tavern on the Gold Coast in May 2011.

His accomplices, Donna Lee McAvoy and Benjamin Power, have yet to be sentenced.

In the Brisbane District Court on Wednesday Judge Leanne Clare extended Abell's non-parole period by 12 months for a violent home invasion and robbery he committed five months before killing Det Leeding.

Abell now will not be eligible for parole until 2032.
