Cooperation leads to wonderful concerts
THE Stanthorpe RSL Band members are looking forward to putting on a spectacular weekend filled with musical performances.
The band will join forces with Brisbane Symphonic Band on the weekend for some fantastic concerts.
The weekend will start with an intensive workshop, where the two groups will work together in preparation for an evening showcase concert in the Stanthorpe Civic Centre.
Both groups will perform at the concert, with a massed ensemble of players from both bands concluding the evening.
BSB Swing and guests from Stanthorpe Swing will present a lunchtime concert at Robert Channon Wines the next day.
Stanthorpe RSL Band president and musical director Malcolm Gamble is excited about the opportunities the collaboration will provide for himself, as a conductor, and members of the band.
"I'm looking forward to working with and learning from a more experienced and advanced musical director and conductor,” he said.
"I'm looking forward to learning more conducting techniques, and other things that can improve our band.
"In fact, I'd like to think that I'm like a sponge waiting and wanting to soak up new knowledge, new ideas, and so on.”
Mr Gamble said it was a great opportunity for the band members to work with and be mentored by talented musicians.
"In the Granite Belt, it is a rare opportunity to both attend the workshop in the morning, and then play with a 50-member band of the quality of the BSB,” he said.
Mr Gamble encouraged locals to come along to the concerts.
"To anyone thinking about coming along, please do,” he said.
"Music has inspired me many times in my life, and being able to do that to other people is perhaps what I want to achieve most of all, not just for the audience, but for the players also.
"I believe the audience can expect to have an enjoyable night out, listen to some great music, and be entertained.”
