Club makes it through the deluge
WARWICK Touch Association president Nikki Hornberg believes the club was lucky to only receive minor damage from last week’s flood.
Water was 30cm deep in the clubhouse which is on the southern side of the Collegians Junior Rugby League club house on St Mark’s Oval.
The association has lino in its club room which was not damaged but two push mowers and two weed eaters were wrecked after going under water in the storeroom.
Hornberg said the club was lucky that the motor of the ride-on mower was just above the water level.
“We will claim insurance for our losses,” Hornberg said.
“There is nothing wrong with the field after the flood and not much fencing was damaged. Two irrigation pipes were washed away.”
Water went through a fridge and freezer and both are now being dried out before they are tested.
Hornberg said the association was lucky committee members Robert and Tamara Stewart put a lot of the items in the club house above flood level before the water rose.
After a break of a year, Hornberg returned to the presidency at the recent annual general meeting.
Greg Wallace is treasurer, Marcus Stewart vice president, Robert Stewart referee’s coordinator and Fiona White draw coordinator.
Tanya Wright was elected PR officer while Michelle Hoffman and Angela Lynch will share the role of registrar.
Tamara Stewart is canteen convenor.
A date is yet to be confirmed but it is likely a muster for the new season will be after Australia Day.
