City men's finals' dreams alive

Carlton v City

THE day started with a positive performance by the Carlton Fillies. Their coach said it was "the best I have seen them play as a team”.

Tyler Bougoure was a stand out performer in City's 4-nil win in Junior Colts.

Both sides started on the front foot and despite City being favoured, the Bears youngsters never made it easy for them.

The Senior Colts fixture was played as a friendly, with Carlton only able to field six. Both teams had a fun outing, with Cartlon keeper Jess Aspinall pulling out a slew of impressive saves. Rory McDonagh and Matthew Biddulph found the net for City to give them the friendly win.

In the Ladies match up, City were looking to gain some momentum going into finals, while Carlton were hoping to bounce back from a disappointing match last week. Carlton started strongly with Peita Hunter putting the first goal away after a well directed corner.

City hit back twice. It was 2-1 in City's favour late into the second half and Carlton, with only 10 players for the whole match, were starting to tire until a late long-range goal from Jane Muller tied things up.

A much improved game from an under strength Carlton team - Louise Day showed much promise stepping up from Fillies and wasn't intimidated, playing very strongly out wide.

City will take positives from a close, hard-fought game going into finals.

In the A-grade, City pulled off yet another strong result to keep their finals' hopes alive. Knowing only a win would keep them in contention for fourth, the men in orange put in a good shift. City grabbed their first through a counter-attacking goal before half-time. They worked hard as the second started, with another late goal to clinch a 2-nil victory.
