Chopper assists police to arrest knife wielding man

POLICE have arrested a man armed with a knife after an incident near Pittsworth.

They were assisted by the new police helicopter Polair 2.

A Police Media spokesman said the man had been drunk and verbally abusive and was at one stage armed with a knife.

A woman was allegedly assaulted during the incident and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Pittsworth police officers took the man into custody at Yarranlea about 11:30am today.

The Chronicle understands it was the first time Polair 2, a Eurocopter BO 105 Super Five, was deployed in the Pittsworth area.
