Chase proves too much
BRENDAN Iles might be a batting all-rounder but that didn't stop him taking a match-winning 3-11 off 2.2 overs at Dunning Oval in Warwick A-grade cricket yesterday.
Batting first, Colts scored 199 in 40 overs, Cameron Peterson top scoring with 50 which included six fours.
John Cleary hit two fours and two sixes in 28.
Brett McEvoy was the best of the Diggers bowlers with 3-33 off eight overs.
Dave Walker took 3-35 off eight overs and Col O'Brien 2-16 off three overs.
A highlight of the innings was a running catch by Chris McEvoy to dismiss Matt Elford.
In reply, the Diggers top order was held together by opener Jamie Saunders who occasionally hit over the top, as well as his trademark shots from the coaching manual.
Saunders was caught by Don Miller off Lachlan Gross for 54. Brett McEvoy raced to 33 before being caught by Gross off Iles.
Miller fielded brilliantly and took three catches.
Diggers were on 162 and still had 5.4 overs to go when the last man was dismissed.
Wheatvale beat Maryvale by six runs at Slade Park.
The winners were best served by Neil Cantwell, who scored 36 after opening the batting, and Chris Cantwell who was 34 not out.
Andrew Ryan took 3-20 off 7.1 overs for Maryvale and J. Osborne 3-22 off eight overs.
Maryvale was dismissed for 162, with Mitch Siebenhausen leading the way with 40.
Nathan Bell was the best of the bowlers with 3-40. Jack Breen took 2-27 after opening the bowling for last season's reserve-grade premiers.
Two of the final four Maryvale batsmen were run out, which probably cost their side victory.
