Charges after car crashes into Toowoomba church

POLICE have charged a 28-year-old woman after a single vehicle traffic crash in Harristown around 9pm last night.

It is alleged that the woman was driving along Buckland St when she collided with a sign, crossed the road, struck a fence, a house then crashed into the front of a church on Burton St.

The building sustained significant damage.

The woman allegedly fled the scene on foot and was located a short time later by police at a Newtown residence.

The 28-year-old Harristown woman has been charged with driving over the general alcohol limit and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

She is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on May 5.
