Chamber of Commerce 'yet to sing council budget praises'
STANTHORPE Chamber of Commerce members haven't condemned the 2015/2016 budget, but they're yet to sing its praises.
Chamber president John Bylicki said council had framed the budget with the aim of reducing debt, but Chamber would be doing their homework before accepting whether council had reached their goal.
"There is a lot of detailed information available in the 2015 Budget and Long Term Financial Forecast available on the council website," he said.
"The chamber will be working through this information and requesting explanations or further information where clarity is required."
Mr Bylicki said it was not clear how much provision had been made for projected growth and any shortfall would put the income estimates under pressure.
"Given the reduction in discount allowance it would seem that rates will rise by around 10% with urban users bearing the largest increase," he said.
"The Chamber is concerned that council has provided $20,000 for work on Emu Swamp Dam and no other mention in the budget paper on funding for this major project."
