Central hotel opens up bistro
OUT the corner of Victoria and High St, Stanthorpe, the new smell of pub food has filled the air.
It's one year since Michael and Carolanne Yates took over the Central Hotel where they recently opened up the bistro.
"It took 12 months to really get it going because it hasn't been used for so long,” Michael explained.
"We didn't know whether it was going to work properly or not.
"There's some old ovens and stuff in there, but thank god it worked.”
The pair always planned on reopening the bistro, however it came with challenges.
"We couldn't find a cook,” Michael said.
"We really needed a local one.
"I've had plenty of offers to bring someone in but I didn't think that was going to work.”
Carolanne said the main focus for the food was presentation.
"I just think you eat with your eyes first,” she said.
"I just want nicely presented pub grub basically.
"People seem to like what we're doing.
"We've got a lot of repeat customers and we've only been opened five weeks so that says a lot.”
She also thanked the hotel's staff for all of their hard work.
"We couldn't have done what we've done in the last 12 months without the staff that we've got,” she said.
"They're just so supportive and they actually often say 'we're just like a family.'”
