Farmer meets idol John Williamson

EVERY breed of cattle deserves a song, believes Yangan cattle farmer John Brandon after meeting his idol John Williamson.

The keen senepol cattle breeder was excited to have his bull Rocky, the Queensland Bulls mascot, appear alongside Mr Williamson at his concert in Toowoomba earlier this year.

After this event, he arranged for the beast and the singer to meet again in Warwick yesterday before Mr Williamson’s concert at the RSL, where he signed Rocky and later sang for the first time in concert I’m going to die in Queensland.

“I am a big fan – a terrific fan. I am trying to get John to write a song about senepols,” Mr Brandon said.

Mr Williamson said he had signed a lot of different things in his time in the limelight, however, the signing yesterday was the most unusual.

“You know girls, they want all sorts of things signed – I have never signed anything like a bull,” he laughed.

He was glad to finally make it back to Warwick, after he was forced to cancel his earlier tour due to the floods, and unveiled three new songs at the event.

“I reckon the Queenslanders won’t mind my new Queensland song. It’s the kind of chorus I think they will join into quickly,” Mr Williamson said.

Rocky has been a mascot for Mr Brandon’s favourite team for the past four years and regularly travels to the big smoke for an appearance at the Gabba.

Mr Brandon owner of Boomerang Park Senepol has been a keen musician himself for many years and recently released a single Murray Grey Fever.

“It’s unreal having a singer like John Williamson here signing my bull – it’s just an honour,” he said. “I’ll now die a happy man.”
