POLICE are still investigating a car crash that claimed the life of a 62-year-old man on the New England Hwy at 10.30am on Friday.

Stanthorpe Police Sergeant Daniel O'Dea said preliminary investigations had concluded the man was driving from Turrella in Sydney to Brisbane.

"The silver Porsche veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a truck," Sgt O'Dea said.

"It will take some time to determine the cause."

The 40-year-old learner truck driver sustained a fractured right ankle and his passenger was uninjured.

Police are urging motorists to drive to conditions and rest on long trips.
