CANCER WALK: Join in Sunday's journey for cancer cause
CREEPING into 90 years of age, Sam Cristina won't let that deter him from journeying from Warwick to Stanthorpe this Sunday.
People are being urged to get their names in to take part in the walk, with proceeds going to the local cancer support group.
The last time Sam Cristina walked the 60 kilometre journey to raise money, he was 80 years old.
But he's giving it another go, in his third Sam's Walk for a Cure to raise money for the Stanthorpe Cancer Support Group.
While sections ranging from five kilometres are offered, Sam is planning to walk the whole 60 kilometres.
Held in 2007, the first event took 12 hours, with stops for lunch and morning tea, while the second, two years later, saw the time winnowed down to 11 hours.
This time, he's not looking at the clock 'I'm just going to do it'.
The event will be held on Sunday, September 22 and the direction has been reversed, allowing walkers a triumphant entry into Stanthorpe.
Supporter Lynette Torrisi will be along too.
Mrs Torrisi said the walk starts in Warwick at 6am on Sunday at the Post Office.
Crisps Coaches have also donated a bus to take walkers from Stanthorpe.
The bus from Stanthorpe leaves at 4.45am sharp. Participants will then warm up from 5.45am.
The walk will wind up at the Stanthorpe Fitness Centre.
Registrations remain open and people can sign up on the morning if they wish.
