Cafe helps fireys fight fire with free coffee

GRANITE Belt firefighters must think Glenys Bambery is an angel.

The owner of Heavenly Chocolate has kept them caffeinated throughout the long nights battling the Girraween fire with free coffee.

"We were sitting here thinking 'we're just sitting here waiting, we need to do something for these guys'," she said.

Her own daughter is a Rural Fire Service volunteer with the Ballandean station, so Mrs Bambery knows first hand how much hard work the crews have been putting in over the past few days.

"It's there if they're coming off shift or they're on shift and they want a coffee," she said.

"It's extended to all fireys."

The cafe is located on Pyramids Rd, Wyberba, which is closed off just a little further down the road. The majority of vehicles coming past are fire trucks.

They're not near the fire but there's plenty of smoke surrounding their business.

"This time of the year is always quiet anyway. We're not worrying about it and we just go about our daily jobs.

"If we get people in we get people in and we advise them to be careful."

Mrs Bambery wished all the firefighters safety and to speedily control the fire.
