Cyclone-affected farmers to have funding level upgraded
CYCLONE-RAVAGED farmers can expect an elevation to Category C disaster funding today.
Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry last night said she expected the announcement within 24 hours.
"All being well, a Category C rating would firstly be rolled out to primary producers and would include substantial subsidies to help those eligible, to recover following Cyclone Marcia," she said.
Ms Landry expects a Category C rating to be applied to small business "sometime later".
"The damage from Cyclone Marcia was overwhelming in a lot of pockets at Byfield and along the coast," Ms Landry said.
"Primary producers and small business owners have been totally gutted in parts of the Livingstone Shire and they deserve some further assistance that Category C is expected to offer.
"I expect that a joint a Federal-State Government announcement will be made today for primary producers."
Ms Landry was out in the Byfield region earlier this week and said some parts of the Livingstone Shire deserved a Category D rating.
"Category C has to come first.
But I would support a Category D for some areas, including Byfield, and I encourage the Queensland Government to make a submission for this," Ms Landry said.
"Nothing can move forward on these ratings until Queensland's Premier makes a submission."
