Bushfire under control

A BUSH fire burning about 15km north west of Stanthorpe is now under control, as of 5pm Wednesday.

The blaze near Donnellys Castle has reportedly been burning for several days and at one stage threatened several properties.

Stanthorpe combined rural fire brigade group leader Ian Townsend said crews from around the area back-burned on Bamberry Lane last night.

"It's all been contained, there were a couple of houses threatened so we had to back-burn to stop them from burning," he said.

"Most of the Stanthorpe crews have been involved in one way or another."

Mr Townsend said residents need to stay vigilant for the rest of the summer especially as the region experiences hot, dry conditions.

"Keep the gutters clean and make sure you mow around the house," he said.

"Make sure there is good access and make sure fire trucks can get to the house."

All fire weather warnings across the region have been lifted to high.
