Pokie players held up at gunpoint as thieves target pub

CUSTOMERS playing the pokies were among those robbed at gunpoint at a tavern south of Brisbane overnight.

Three men, two armed with a firearm, robbed staff and customers at Runcorn Tavern at Sunnybank.

Police said the trio burst into the tavern around 1.45am.

The men fled in a waiting car after taking a large sum of cash.

The hotel went into lockdown as a result and a manhunt involving the police dog squad is now under way for the three men.

No one was injured during the incident.

Investigators believe the armed robbery was linked to one at a hotel on Newnham Road in Upper Mount Gravatt last week.

The robbery at Sunnybank Hills was one of several incidents in Brisbane’s south overnight including the theft of an Audi being test driven from a Runcorn home and a home invasion in Tarragindi where a young man used a frying pan to chase off two intruders.

It is not known if the incidents are related.
