UPDATE: Inmates taken to hospital after alleged attacks
TWO prisoners from the Maryborough Correctional Centre were transported to hospital, following unrelated incidents over the weekend.
In the first incident, a prisoner was involved in a physical altercation with another prisoner and sustained minor injuries which required assessment at a hospital.
Following a separate incident, a prisoner required hospitalisation.
The Chronicle understands this man was flown to the Gold Coast Hospital with serious head injuries.
Both of the alleged attacks happened on October 8.
There was also another incident at the prison on October 7. In it, a prisoner sustained a minor injury and required medical assessment.
The weekend's events have been referred to the Queensland Corrective Services Investigation Unit.
A Queensland Corrective Services spokesperson said no staff were harmed in any of the three events.
A similar event occurred in August, in which an inmate was flown to Brisbane in a serious condition
At the end of last month, the prison was 20% over capacity in its prisoner numbers
