Trio move through to finals

WARWICK East bowlers Venus Smith, Bev Cahill, Diane Derrick and Barb Cross are on the way to the zone finals at Chinchilla after winning the Southern Downs District Champion of Champions Fours title last week.

They scored a convincing win in the final against a team from Goondiwindi.

In the pairs, Smith and Cahill beat a Clifton pair in the final.

Smith knows the excitement of a state win after playing in the winning Warwick East fours team in 2007 and in pairs success with Val Chant in 2001.

Cross and Cahill won the district and zone champion of champion pairs in 2006 before being eliminated in the semis at the state finals at Sandgate.

Derrick was a sub on the last day for the winning Warwick East team in 2007 so all four have experience at zone and state level.

In her first appearance in the zone champion of champions, Cross admits she was nervous.

“I now know how it works and believe I am playing better than last time,” Cross said.

The zone finals are at Chinchilla on August 30 with the winners in each section to go to state finals at Bribie Island in October.
