Borg plans to cure Qld Health
WITH his priorities straight and objectives clear Southern Downs member Lawrence Springborg attended his first cabinet meeting as Minster for Health yesterday.
The first official meeting of premier Campbell Newman's cabinet was focused around discussions about the implementation of LNP election promises.
Mr Springborg said reducing the cost of living, bringing about real change and delivering effective services for all Queenslanders were high on the agenda.
"Getting to be a cabinet minister and make real change in Queensland is what I am looking forward to doing," he said.
"After talking with my department over the last few days I also plan to deliver a lean and focused Queensland Health that will support local hospital boards, bring in and support our doctors and nurses and give a better quality of health care to all patients in the state."
"I also plan to deliver medical assistance to regional and rural patents that have to travel to specialists in the cities for their accommodation and transport needs.
"This is an enormous portfolio and the budget is about 12 billion dollars and has over 85,000 employees so there will be many issues and different challenges but a lot of great opportunities as well.
"What we want is to make sure that we get more resources into the front line and administer health more locally through boards we will establish."
Mr Springborg said even though his time will have to be shared around more now his heart still belongs to the Southern Downs.
"I am absolutely 100 per cent committed to my area as I have always been and will continue to be."
