Boost your summer fluids with selection of juicy fruits

IN PREVIOUS columns, I have stressed the need for people to maintain hydration through consuming fluids, such as water or sports drinks.

This will become even more important as we approach the summer months, when we will need to pay more attention to hydrating before, during and after physical activity.

Whether you use commercial products marketed for pre-exercising, during exercising or post exercising, it is important for our bodies that we maintain hydration levels.

While drinking fluids is generally the best way to do this, we can augment it by eating foods with high water content.

Fruit such as watermelon, strawberries, Kiwi fruit and oranges can help increase our fluid levels before, during and after physical activity.

These will also provide sugar needed to help keep up energy levels.

Even vegetables - such as tomatoes - can provide additional fluids to help us maintain hydration.

So, as well as being healthy to eat, fruit and vegetables can help boost our intake of water to maintain hydration.
