THOUGH the "boob job" has long been one of the most popular medical procedures in our cashed-up economy, in tougher times people may look elsewhere to get more bang for their buck.
Like Thailand. Which is just what Kaleigh Nixon did.
With money and time on her hands after being made redundant in recent mine site staff cuts, the health officer and physiotherapist felt the time was right to explore the breast enhancement option.
"I got into body building while I was working at the mines, at an Anglo American site," Ms Nixon said.
"I lost all my boobs through training and thought now's the perfect time to get my boobs done, as I'll have time to recover before I start another job.
"I was going to get them done here in Mackay but I was talking to friends on a weekend away and one suggested I contacted her aunts, who have a company offering procedures in Thailand.
"The cost is about $10,000 in Mackay, and $12-$14,000 on the Gold Coast but in Thailand it was just $3000."
For a total cost of about $6000, Ms Nixon was able to enjoy return flights to Bangkok, her breast enhancement at a hospital that she said was like a five-star resort, accommodation for the rest of her stay, equally five-star, all medicines and insurance, plus a carer to look after her from the moment she touched down in Thailand until she flew out nine days later.
That's quite a package, and the 28-year-old said the experience, which she said took her from being flat-chested to a moderate 36C, was all positive.
"I had normal pain, which you would expect from any surgery, and having the carer was wonderful.
"She took care of me every day with everything - helping me to get changed, if I needed food, taking me sightseeing."
Ms Nixon, who has returned to Mackay this week, is looking forward to getting back into fitness modelling, a form of body building.
