Blind cyclist digs deep

VISION-impaired cyclist Lorin Nicholson will be joined by Warwick rider John Eder for part of his ride from Brisbane to Melbourne this month to raise funds for Vision Australia's Blind Children's Services.

Lorin, his wife Lisa, who is originally from Warwick, and their four children lived in Warwick from 2002 to 2007 before they moved to Brisbane for Lorin to pursue his career as a musician and youth motivational speaker.

In April 2010 Lorin and his brother Dean, who are both legally blind due to the genetic eye condition retinitis pigmentosa, were joined by pilot riders Eder and Grant Williams as the brothers became the first blind riders to cycle across Australia.

The four riders covered 4100km in four weeks on the road.

Lorin said after the success of the 4100km Blind Courage Expedition across Australia, he was often asked about his next adventure to raise funds for Vision Australia.

The next expedition is a ride from Brisbane to Melbourne, where Lorin will perform for the fourth time at the televised Carols by Candlelight on Christmas Eve.

Lorin leaves Brisbane on December 5 in combination with pilot rider Mark Berends, of Brisbane.

He will be joined by Eder in Sydney on December 11 for the second half of the journey.

Clubs Australia has generously sponsored Lorin's December ride and through its website clubsaustralia.com.au will accept donations through the blind courage link.

Supporters can follow the progress of the ride or donate by searching for blindcourage on Facebook.

Lorin has just launched his fourth CD of instrumental guitar tracks, titled Lorin Plays Canon In D, which includes 11 more of Lorin's most requested ballads.
